About Us

The Credit Union Movement
A growing movement within the UK, over 650 registered Credit Unions currently provide a valuable and unique service to over 270,000 members.

There are 19 other Credit Unions in Lancashire the largest being the Lancashire Constabulary with members savings of over £1 million

As mutual, not for profit organisations owned by their members, Credit Unions offer a valuable alternative to traditional financial service organisations providing an easy and rewarding way to save and a competitive and ethical way to borrow.

Within each Credit Union, all members are linked by a Common Bond which can be geographical, where members live in the same area, or employee/associational where members are linked through sharing an employer or organisation type, or a combination of both.

Worldwide, there are more than 36,000 Credit Unions operating in more than 80 countries serving over 100 million people, with assets of over £250 billion..

Colne & District Credit Union
